Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 August 2026
Good Excuse collects nothing about you. There is no account, no analytics, and no server for your information to be sent to. This policy explains what that means in practice.
What we collect
Nothing. We do not collect, store, transmit, sell or share any personal information. We have no way to identify you and no record that you use the app.
What the app stores on your device
The app keeps a few things locally so it can work:
- The messages it has generated, along with the choices you made when generating them, so you can find them again in History.
- Anything you type into the app, such as the optional context note or a free-text “Other” description.
- A count of how many excuses you have generated today, so the free daily allowance can reset at midnight.
- The last few messages it produced, so it does not hand you the same one twice.
All of this is stored only on your device, in the app's own storage. It is not backed up to us, because there is no “us” to back it up to. It may be included in your own iCloud or computer backups if you have those switched on, in which case it is covered by Apple's terms rather than ours. Deleting the app removes all of it.
Network access
The app makes no network requests of its own. Every message is composed on your device from wording built into the app, which is why it works in aeroplane mode.
Two things do involve a network, and both are initiated by you:
- Buying or restoring Pro. This goes through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple processes the payment and tells the app whether you own the unlock. We never see your name, email address or payment details. Apple's handling of that transaction is covered by Apple's privacy policy. We can see anonymous, aggregated sales figures in App Store Connect — how many copies sold, in which countries — and nothing that identifies a buyer.
- Opening a link. Tapping the Privacy Policy or Support links in Settings opens this website in your browser.
Sharing a message
When you tap Copy or Share, the message goes to your clipboard or to whichever app you choose in the iOS share sheet. That hand-off is between you, iOS and the app you picked. We are not involved and receive no copy of it.
Analytics, tracking and advertising
There are none. The app contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no crash reporter and no third-party tracking of any kind. No data is used to track you across apps or websites.
Children
The app is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Data protection law gives you rights to access, correct and delete personal data held about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to produce or erase. The data on your device is yours: delete individual messages by swiping in History, or remove everything by deleting the app.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date at the top. If a future version of the app ever collected anything, that change would be described here before it shipped.
